Freestyle Sessions

Most figure skaters get their start by taking group lessons in the Skating School and practicing on the public skating sessions. Eventually, as they get more serious about the sport and decide to participate in competitions and shows, they progress to private instruction with a figure skating coach and practice on freestyle sessions. These sessions are designed specifically for figure skating training, with a limited number of skaters on the ice. This is the perfect opportunity to work on skating technique and choreography for a skating program. Rinkside controls are available for playback of program music.

Freestyle Session Prices

$11.00 per session, drop-on
$9.00 per session, pre-paid
$225.00 for 25-session card

Staff Coaches

Staff coaches teach classes in our Skating School and are available for private lessons.

For a complete list, go to Staff Coaches.

Visiting Coaches

Visiting coaches are welcome to teach on our sessions for a daily fee, subject to the limitations specified in our Visiting Coaches Policy.

Summer Info

June 14 - Sept 3, 2010

Freestyle by Reservation

The number of skaters on the ice is strictly limited to give everyone a fair chance to train productively. The maximum is 20 skaters per session.

If you possibly can, reserve your Monday thru Friday sessions in advance. You get the advantage of a guaranteed place on the sessions of your choice. This is particularly important when you have lessons planned.

Drop-On Freestyle

For skaters who do not wish to sign up in advance, and for those occasions when you simply need to add an extra session or two, freestyle sessions are offered on a drop-on basis, subject to space limitations.

Drop-ons must be requested and paid for at the front desk when you arrive at the rink. No telephone or other requests will be accepted for same-day sessions.

Freestyle Prices

Pre-Paid: $9 per session
Same Day: $11 per session

Private Lessons

Staff coaches are available for private lessons during the freestyle sessions. All instructors are independent contractors who use the East West Ice Palace facility. They set their own schedules and fees. East West Ice Palace will forward your lesson requests, but any arrangements you make will be between you and the individual coach.

Reservation Policy

Reservations must be pre-paid and are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis up to a maximum of 20 skaters per session.

Reservations may be added, canceled, or changed to a different session up to the deadline of 2:00 pm on the prior day.

Credit is issued for changes made prior to the deadline. Once the deadline has passed, skaters are committed to the sessions reserved. Absence from a reserved session forfeits the credit.

All skaters must check in at the front desk for their sessions.

Reservations are held to 5 minutes before the start of a session. At that point, skaters are called from the waiting list, if any. If the session is full, a skater with a reservation who arrives late will lose his or her place and forfeit the credit.

Available session credits may be used for future reservations or for drop-on sessions.

Los Angeles Figure Skating Club

Los Angeles Figure Skating Club

East West Ice Palace has teamed up with the Los Angeles Figure Skating Club (LAFSC). The club has a long and distinguished history — one of largest clubs in Southern California, and one of the most influential in the United States as a whole. LAFSC has designated our rink as a satellite facility, and holds monthly test sessions and an annual competition here.

Test Sessions

Test sessions are normally held about once per month at our rink. Upcoming tests:

Sunday, July 25, 2010 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Sunday, August 29, 2010 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

You can download a test application from the LAFSC website (under “Forms”) and either mail your completed application to the address on the form or drop it at the East West Ice Palace box office.
